Dream Pills Devlog #2 – Polishing the Shadows

Date: September 1, 2024

I'm excited to bring you the latest update in the development of Dream Pills, where i've been working hard to refine and enhance the game based on your feedback. As i continue this journey, i remain committed to delivering a terrifying and immersive experience. Here's what i've improved and added in this new alpha version.

Visual & Interface Enhancements

The atmosphere of Dream Pills is crucial to its horror experience, and we've made several updates to enhance the visuals and interface:

  • Font Update: We’ve changed the in-game font from HelpMe to Anonymous Pro, which is inspired by the classic Silent Hill aesthetic, adding to the game's unsettling atmosphere.
  • Main Menu Animation: The title of the game is now featured in the main menu with added animations, giving the entrance to the game a more engaging feel.
  • Pause Menu Opacity: The opacity of the pause menu has been increased, making it more readable while maintaining immersion.
  • Hint Positioning: We’ve adjusted the position of hints for closing letters and interacting with paper pages to make them more accessible and intuitive.

Gameplay Improvements

Your gameplay experience is our top priority, and we've addressed several issues to ensure smoother and more consistent gameplay:

  • Key Rebinding Fix: The issue preventing key rebinding has been resolved. Movement keys are now set to static controls using WASD and arrow keys.
  • Sewer Teleportation Fix: We’ve fixed the bug where players would unintentionally teleport from the top to the bottom of the sewers. Interaction messages with the ladder are now displayed correctly.
  • Padded Room Obstacle: The invisible obstacle in the padded room has been removed, but the door inside remains locked for the entirety of the game as intended.

Environmental & Audio Enhancements

Creating a haunting environment is key to the experience of Dream Pills, and we've made several updates in this regard:

  • Lighting Improvements: Additional light sources have been added to address brightness issues, helping to improve navigation and atmosphere.
  • Guidance Enhancements: We’ve introduced more visual cues to simplify navigation and orientation within the game.
  • Volume Settings Fix: The volume settings have been fixed to manage audio levels correctly, allowing for better audio control during gameplay.

Looking Ahead

These updates mark a significant step in refining Dream Pills as we move closer to our vision for the game. We appreciate all the feedback we've received so far and encourage you to keep sharing your thoughts as we continue development. Together, we'll craft an unforgettable horror experience.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, keep dreaming…

Just played the new version! I love the music! :p you should add more! :D

I couldn't find any music credits strangely, did you make it? Its really good!

Yep, the sound in game is edited and it’s just sfx as wind, sirens and so on. The credits will be introduced to mention other people like somebody who will donate or provide help for the game. For now the game is made only by me. I also appreciate your feedback and make sure to follow me if you’re interested in the next update which will be discussed later in the next post.

Thanks!
